As you'll see, I've done most of these more than once. That's usually what happens. I'll do it on my own or in a group of women my age, and then I'll do it later on down the road as I lead my group of college girls through it. God always teaches me something new every time I do them, too.
Another thing you'll notice is I've done some of these on my own. And they've been video driven studies, but I haven't done the videos. It's not been a problem for me. I'm sure I'd get an extra benefit by doing them, because I know how great the videos are - but I didn't feel like I was lacking something when I didn't do the videos. So don't let that stop you. If you can't join a study, just get the workbook and go through it on your own. You'll be happy you did!
Here's a quick "review" from me on each pictured above.
Recovering Redemption by Matt Chandler
I participated in this study with a group of women this summer. It's video driven, but the videos are free on Youtube if you don't have the Discs. I love Matt's teaching style. I also loved that there was only 3 days of homework. I worked through a lot of personal things in this study and came out in much more freedom than I've had in years.
To Live Is Christ by Beth Moore
I did this study all on my own. It's video driven, but I didn't watch the videos. This study follows Paul's ministry and it's powerful. I've always enjoyed studying Paul, but I really enjoyed this study. I felt like Paul and I were friends after this. I was so sad for this one to end. Paul's strength and endurance are so challenging and amazing. I can't wait to sit and talk to him in Heaven, one day.
James Mercy Triumphs by Beth Moore
I participated in this study with a group of women a couple years ago. It's video driven, but this is her first study that the homework doesn't intertwine with the videos. This is a GOOD study. James is a no nonsense guy who was very close to Jesus so he has a lot to say. I related a lot to his personality. Plus, the book of James has a lot of practical lessons to learn and apply today. I also took the challenge Beth proposed in this study and memorized the whole book of James in a year's time. That was a huge thing for me and was a VERY VERY powerful thing in my life, that still continues to be.
Me, Myself and Lies by Jennifer Rothschild
I've done this study twice. Once on my own and once leading a group of college girls. It's a great study on combating Satan's lies as well as our own and focusing on TRUTH.
Virtuous Woman by Vicki Courtney
I've done this study twice. Once on my own as a newlywed, 10 years ago. And once leading a group of college girls. This study is a MUST for every woman. It's a study of the virutous woman we all know about in Proverbs 31. It's encouraging, challenging, motivating and equipping. You will learn TONS by doing this study - believe me (There are no videos for this study)
Believing God by Beth Moore
This is the first Beth Moore study I ever did back in 2006 so it holds a very special place in my heart. I love this study. I have done it twice. Once in a group of women my age and another leading a group of college girls. It's video driven and both times I watched the videos. This study taught me what it means to actually believe God - who He is, what He does, etc. And I still remember the 5 statement pledge from this study. I go back to it often. This study has things in it that I still think about and apply on a weekly basis in my life.
Daniel by Beth Moore
I've also done this study twice. Once on my own and once leading a group of college girls. Both times, I did NOT watch the videos and it wasn't an issue for me. This study is powerful as you spend 6 weeks studying Daniel and 6 weeks studying the end times. I never knew, before this study, that the book of Daniel had so much prophesy about the end times. You will end this study with vast amoungs of knowledge!
No Other Gods by Kelly Minter
This study is based on Kelly's book by the same name. I read the book several years ago and LOVED it. It's on modern day idols. I did the study as I led a group of college girls. There are no videos for this study. This book and study has changed me. God showed me areas that I wasn't putting him first (having idols) and shined light on how to fix that. This is a MUST for any Christian. You may say "Oh yeah, God is my #1"....do this study and you may see otherwise.
Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shirer
Another two timer for me. Once in a group of women my age and once leading a group of college girls. The first time we watched the videos. The 2nd, we didn't (and it was fine). This study helps you learn practical ways to listen to God speaking and how to know when He is speaking. Tons of good stuff in this!! Plus, I love Priscilla's teaching and writing style!
Lord Teach Us to Pray by Kay Arthur
I did this study with a group of women. It is video driven and we watched the videos. This study leads you through the Lord's Prayer as you go line by line on learning how to pray. It's GOOD STUFF. Kay is so knowledgable and you can't take enough notes!
Hopefully this helps you some next time you're thinking of a new study!
Stay tuned, I've got other recommendations coming your way in the coming weeks!
