Here’s what you need to know: I’m no super woman. My pace will not be record breaking and I’ll be huffing and puffing the whole way but I just wanted to finish this goal. I started running well after my kids were grown and am happy to say I ran two half marathons last year! I’m that woman that loved every minute of raising my two children but didn’t make time or have the will power to take care of them and me at the same time. And while the empty nest stage can be a really hard process, one of the beauties that God gives you later is the time to spend well-deserved, relaxing and sweet moments with your spouse and to have time for your health and well-being.
So girls, whether moms or not, whether married or single, and no matter what stage in life you find yourself, stop beating yourself up. Make some small goals and finish them. Occasionally make a big goal and finish that one. But above all, enjoy the journey and spend as much time as possible with God and allow Him to love on you. I wasted so many years wanting to look differently, particularly with my weight. I felt that I was always waiting for the next stage, particularly when the kids were growing up and then suddenly found myself in their last days with me. And now, they are on their own and our son with a family of his own. Each stage of life, so hard, so super sweet, sometimes so painful but always just what God designed for me. Not you, me! And He’s designed yours just the way He knew would make you shine. So run the journey of your life that you may win!
“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified."
