I gave Landon the option to do a horse themed party or a Daniel Tiger party (two of his favorite things). He chose horse theme, so off I went planning!
For decorations, I keep it simple. I usually pick several colors to decorate with, incorporate it into the invites (which I make on the computer myself), utilize his own toys/items to decorate for the theme, and I print off lots of pictures to use in decorating. I like to go through and print off pictures that document his year the best. Any "firsts" he had and fun memories are printed off. I've done this every year because I love seeing the pictures and the guests love it too! (For his first birthday I printed off 100 pictures!!)
For center pieces, one of my go-to decorations is these Toilet Paper/Tissue Paper Picture holder. I can't tell you how many parties, showers, get togethers, etc. I've used this concept at. It's easy and cheap and a great way to display pictures on tables!
What you need:
- Toilet Paper rolls
- Tissue Paper (in party colors)
- String
- Pictures
- Wooden Kabob sticks (buy at your grocery store)
To make the picture sticks you simply take a long wooden kabob stick that you can find at your grocery store and tape the pictures to the end. I put two pictures on each stick - back to back - if the center piece will be in the middle of the table. If it'll be against a wall, I just do one. I use blue painters tape because it's easier to get off after the party is over.
Side note: You can also use the shorter kabob sticks (or just cut the longer ones) for cupcake toppers. Simply add the topper to the stick and ta-da! For the last two birthdays, I've made cupcakes and cut out my own scrapbook paper flags in the party colors/theme and used them as toppers! Easy, cheap, and adorable!!
For this party, I cut out black horse silhouettes to tie in his theme so I put those on sticks too.
I also like to use mason jars and fill them with shredded paper in the party colors and then stick picture sticks in them as well. I have one of those for another spot as party decoration as well.
Happy party planning!!
