How far along are you? 11 weeks (my new week starts on Wednesdays)
Were yall trying? Yes. We'd been trying for about a month and a half.
What does Landon think? Up until a couple weeks ago, we didn't talk to him about it. He's a big talker so I knew he would mention it out and about and we hadn't told our families yet so I didn't want him talking about it. Now, he talks about the baby in Mommy's belly a lot. He hopped up on the couch the other day and scooted up to my belly (I was laying down on my side) and said he wanted to sit beside the baby. :) He also said something the other day about holding a baby sister, too. (We don't know what the gender is yet, FYI) Then I asked if he wanted a baby brother or sister and he said brother. Ha. But then he got side tracked by some cement mixer trucks. Ha.
Will you find out the gender? Absolutely! I'm too much of a planner not to. We found out with Landon and can't wait to know in November (hopefully) what this one is!
How are you feeling? Around week 6, I really ban to feel that unsettled stomach feeling I had with Landon. I explained to Ben with Landon that it was like a constant state of motion sickness. A little headache, dizziness and just unsettled tummy. This time around, the unsettled feeling is WAY worse. At week 6 I was put on some meds that I take at night, but they make me really tired as well. (Which is a double whammy since pregnancy already makes me tired) The summer heat doesn't help - I'm over it. I've had several headaches here and there. I was grossed out by deli meat for a while and texture and smells still really make me want to hurl. My "morning sickness" which for me is all day - and at its peak during the second half of the day - got worse around week 9 and has stayed at that intensity. I actually upped my meds at that time too. Praying that the sickness ends as I enter the 2nd trimester in the next couple weeks.
Are you still exercising? Yes! I'm still doing Body Pump twice a week. I've lowered my weight quite a bit and wear my heart rate monitor to watch my heart rate. I don't let it get much higher than 155 or so. It typically stays between 130 and 140. I just don't push myself like I would otherwise. Most of the time, I'm dropping my weight all together during the end of the squat or lunge track because it's too much. I'm also doing a lot of fast walking (30 min at least at a time) to get good cardio in, too. My doctor tells me to keep doing what I did pre-pregnancy, but listen to my body and take it easy and don't push myself. :)
How did you find out? We found out on Friday, July 17. I'd been having irregular cycles since March so while I knew I was late, that didn't necessarily mean I was pregnant. I'd taken a test each week since I "should've" started and they were both negative. I was laying in bed on Friday morning and I was about to get up for the day - going back and forth in my mind on whether to take another test. It'd been a week since my last one so part of me wanted to see but the other didn't want to because it's disappointing seeing negative. I'd gone through that for several months with Landon when we were trying to get pregnant with him, so I knew that song and dance too well. I decided to take one so I snuck into the bathroom so I didn't wake up Ben. (He was going into work a little later this morning) I took the test and went into my closet to hide from Ben. :) It was taking a while and the digital hour glass was still in the results window and I thought "well it must be negative. If it was positive it would've popped up right away. It's taking too long." (FYI: it popped up pregnant right away with Landon) As soon as I finished that thought it popped up pregnant! I gasped and covered my mouth, had little tears in my eyes, put my hand on my belly and immediately asked God to protect the little peanut.
How did you tell Ben? I had bought a "Big Brother" shirt for Landon to wear several months before and kept it to use to tell him when the time came. Landon woke up in time for me to get him up and run him into the bathroom where Ben was getting ready with the shirt on. Landon went running to Ben and he picked him up but didn't say anything about his shirt. I said "Did you see his shirt?" and Ben read it and said "Big Brother......huh?!" and looked up at me confused. It was hilarious. We still laugh about how it took him a minute to catch on. :) He hugged me and couldn't believe how fast it took this time. (FYI: It took about half the time this go around)
I snapped these pictures in the closet before telling Ben. Then the others with Landon in his shirt after we told Ben.
When did you go to the doctor? Because of my irregular cycles (and the history of it) I had 3 ultrasounds before we finally saw the baby and its heartbeat at week 6. That was such a great feeling to finally see the little peanut, the heart beat, and get a due date. Then I went back at 11 weeks for our first appointment to hear the heartbeat from the outside. That sound NEVER gets old! Outside of that, I went several other times in the early stages to get my HCG levels checked to try to figure out how far along I was. We think the digital test picked it up a lot sooner than usual - around week 3. So it took a while to get that due date. We also have kept this thing a secret for 2 months!!!
How did you tell your families? We went to the beach with my family at week 8 so we told them then. We used Landon's Big Brother shirt again. I put it on him and waited to see who caught on first. It took a good 6 minutes before my sister noticed and yelled out "Does anybody else see what Landon's shirt says?!" :) Everybody screamed and my Dad ran around from excitement. Landon freaked out because it was all targeted at him since he had the shirt on. LOL Everybody was teary eyed and gave us hugs. We told Ben's family at week 10. We went to their house for a get together and used Landon's shirt again. It took them about 5 minutes or so and his Dad noticed his shirt and asked what it meant. I told Landon to tell them what it meant and whispered "baby" to him and he started jumping up and down, laughing, smiling and squealing "BABY!" over and over. It was seriously adorable and hilarious. Then once Ben's sister and her family arrived it took her a couple more minutes to see the shirt before she asked too. Landon then yelled "BIG BROTHER" really loud and giddy. So cute and fun! It made everybody laugh.
How did you keep it a secret for 2 months? Well this go around it was way harder to keep from people. Mostly because I felt so yucky. I told my best friends pretty quickly after we had our due date at week 6 or 7. I was on a women's retreat with church and one of my friends asked me point blank if I was pregnant yet (she knew we wanted another kid soon) so I couldn't lie. Then I told my college age Bible study girls at week 10 because I wanted them to hear from me. Oh and I also had another friend who works out with me at the gym several times a week if I was pregnant. :) I smiled and said "yes, but shh...it's a secret". I later asked how she knew and she said she could see a little bump and knew I'd been skipping abs in Body Pump for weeks. She caught on quick! Ha! I wore lots of baggy clothes and tried my best to keep it secret! It was tough - I love telling people. We made it public to everybody else after my 11 week apt when we heard the heartbeat for the first time.
We announced Landon's arrival via Beach pictures. I wanted to keep that tradition going so we took pictures of Landon in his shirt on the beach. This is the picture we used to announce it on our personal Facebook pages. Then, the picture I used to announce on my Shape Her pages.
