It can be intimidating going to the gym where you see a ton of men near the weights, lots of equipment you don't know how to use, and lots of eyes on you. I get it. If you're intimidated and need a way to start out, start at home! No eyes looking your way and a personal trainer on the TV telling you exactly what to do - all in the privacy of your home!
One of the reasons I became a Beachbody Coach was because of the high quality programs they offer. These workouts are NOT your Momma's Jane Fonda videos. These are GOOD STUFF. I recently had a girl try out 21 Day Fix for the first time. She made me giggle when she admitted it was harder and a better workout than she expected. :) Yep. These programs give results!
I have zero rhythm and can not dance. I'd never go to a dance workout class at the gym. But I'll boogie with Shaun T and do a Cize (hip hop dance) workout, or do some country line dancing in Country Heat, with Autumn Calabrese. That, I can do. There's nobody around to watch me! (well other than my toddler and baby!) :)
#2 START OUT SLOW
Don't pick a program that is going to push you too hard in the beginning. Take it slow starting out. Increase your strength and endurance before taking on a hardcore program. PiYo is a great program for beginners because it incorporates no weights (just your body weight) and no jumping.
#3 FOLLOW THE MODIFIER
Every Beachbody program has a modifier in the workout, in addition to the trainer. The modifier is somebody doing the workout with you, but they're modifying the moves for lower intensity. Follow the modifier in your first couple weeks until you can work your way up to the higher intensity. There is NO SHAME in following a modifier. Remember, you're working out at home - nobody can see you! :)
Beachbody on Demand even has a feature that allows you to watch the modifier on a split screen, while you do the workout, on several of their workouts. It's so handy!!
#4 PLAN IT OUT
Planning out your workouts each week will set you up for success. It'll help take away the opportunity for you to make excuses and skip a day/workout. Every single Beachbody on Demand program comes with a Workout Calendar. It gives you a workout plan to follow EVERY WEEK, for the duration of that program. If you're not following a specific program, and picking and choosing the workouts each week, there's still a weekly workout plan (Challenge du Jour) that is available to follow. They pick the workouts for you, each week, and all you do is push play.
Sit down on Sundays, grab your calendar/planner, and plan out your week's workouts. It'll help you stick to it and see results quicker!
